Here are some myths and facts that will surely help you: Myth â€' It is much safer to use Tanning Beds than exposing yourself to the sun to acquire nice tanned skin.

Fact - Actually exposing yourself in a tanning bed in as short as 20 minutes is equivalent to four hours of exposing yourself in the sun. This is because the UVA in tanning beds can make way into your skin deeper than UVB can do. Aside from that it can also cause skin faster and ruin the immune system.

Myth â€' It is okay if you expose yourself under the sun, just make sure you have sunscreen. Fact - Even during cloudy days, 85% of the UV rays are still visible and can harm skin. It simply means that you have equal chances of harming your skin, whether it is sunny or cloudy. When you are at the beach, it is much better if you could cover up, in spite wearing sunscreen. Always apply sunscreen every two hours because it usually wears off when you sweat.

Myth â€' If you can take care of your skin earlier, it will protect you from skin cancer. Fact â€' According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer usually takes 20 years before it appears. When a person reach 18, he or she will usually get 80% expose to the sun throughout his lifetime. If you already burned your skin during your childhood, chances are, it will increase your risk of having melanoma in the future. If you could take care of your skin now, you may be able to lessen your chances, but the damage is already there.

Myth â€' If you are tanned, you are protected from the sun’s UV rays. Fact â€' Naturally dark skin have lesser chances of developing cancer, if you have tanned skin, it means your skin has been harmed by the sun. If you tried to acquire more tan, it will only damage your skin the more, and make you more susceptible to skin cancer. The best way to protect you and your family is to avoid or just limit your exposure to the sun.

Regularly check your skin and see if it has any signs of damage. Always be ready with your sunscreen with SPF 15 or even higher. Apply your sunscreen 30 minutes before you go outdoors and reapply every two hours. Make sure you and your children are safe and covered when you go outdoors.
