URJA's special transformers are used to transform electrical energy. How electrical transformers do so is by varying voltage. Voltage is the measurement of electrons, how many or how strong, in the flow. Electricity can then be transported more easily and efficiently over long distances.
Special transformers are electrical devices that change power via coupling. The primary winding is connected to the power source and the other windings are known as secondary windings. There is a core with one winding of wire placed close to one or more windings, which can couple two or more alternating-current circuits together by employing the induction between the windings. If the secondary voltage wire is less than the primary wire, the transformer is called a step down transformer. If the secondary wiring is of higher voltage, the transformer is a step-up transformer, which increases voltage input.
