Prineville, Oregon is the new data center location for social networking giant Facebook, bringing new jobs to Central Oregon
Prineville, Oregon, January 23, 2010 -- Facebook, the largest online social networking site, is building a new 117,245-square-foot facility in Prineville, Oregon to house a portion of the company’s data center. The formal announcement was made today at a press conference at the building’s new site, and the company expects to bring at least 35 family-wage jobs to the region.
“Having a growing, international company like Facebook locate part of its operations in Prineville is a great boost to our local economy and general morale,” said Judy Bannon, broker with Coldwell Banker Realty who specializes in the IronHorse neighborhood. “Obviously, the powers that be at Facebook recognized our desirable lifestyle and comparably low cost of living as great benefits to their employees. We look forward to providing these new residents with quality housing in close proximity to their new workplace.”
Facebook’s Prineville project will begin with approximately 200 construction jobs as the company builds its new facility off Tom McCall Road on the town’s west end. After two years, when the office itself opens for business, Facebook will employ regular full-time employees at the data center.
The IronHorse neighborhood, a Brooks Resources mixed-use community in Prineville, Oregon, is positioned to become a great home base for both those moving to the area for work at Facebook and existing Central Oregon residents. The only neighborhood of its kind in Prineville, IronHorse brings together many of the features that today’s homeowner is looking for in a community such as connectivity and easy access to daily amenities.
