In a glittering ceremony, Ms. Shiela Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, unveiled the Commemorative medals carrying images of India’s best known historical architectures in Gold, Silver and Bronze with illuminated Qutab Minar as a backdrop.

The Indian Heritage Commemorative Medals are launched to raise global awareness for the protection of heritage monuments and as many 27 such sites have been identified in India.

Releasing the first four in the series of 27 Commemorative Medals of Heritage Sites in India, Smt. Shiela Dikshit said ” it is a matter of pride that Delhi is a host to three World Heritage Sites- Qutab Minar, an 11th Century edifice with the tallest tower of its times. Humayun’s Tomb, a 15th Century monument which is inspired by its architecture and layout and Red Fort, an early 17th Century defence and palatial establishments on the then banks of Yamuna river representing a stronghold of stronghold of the Mughals in India. Delhi has always been a cauldron of architectural traditions which reflects a successive import of architectural traditions which reflects a successive import of buildings designs and techniques.

Joining Ms. Sheila Dikshit at the launch, Mr. Sanjiv Batra, CMD, MMTC Limited along with Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, Director General, UNESCO; Mr. Jawhar Sircar, Secretary Culture, Govt of India unveiled the commemorative medals displaying Taj Mahal, the Buddhist monuments at Sanchi, the Great Living Chola Temples and Humayun’s Tomb in Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Smt. Sheila Dikshit also thanks MMTC with in Joint Venture of MMTC- PAMP deserves to be thanked for the idea of bringing out the commemorative medals that reflects our sincerity in preserving and maintaining our World Heritage Sites

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Sanjiv Batra, CMD, MMTC Limited said, “It gives me immense pleasure and pride to spearhead India’s mark on a Global platform with the launch of these Commemorative models for the first time, featuring Indian heritage sites. This endeavor is our step further in promoting the awareness of the Indian world heritage sites.”

These medals will be available in the form of 8-gm gold tablets, 30-gm silver tablets and burnished bronze tablets. They will be sold at souvenir shops in vicinity of World heritage sites as well as at selected banks around the world
