First performed in 1955 and often considered one of the great American plays of the twentieth century, Inherit the Wind is a fictionalised account of the 1925 Scopes 'Monkey' trial in which a high school teacher stood trial for teaching his class about Darwin's theory of evolution. Subsequently two legal titans confront each other when a community puts freedom of thought on trial.
Starring Kevin Spacey, who is also in his sixth artistic directorship of The Old Vic, Inherit the Wind is directed by Sir Trevor Nunn and follows the previous success this partnership had with Richard II back in 2005. Famously adapted for the silver screen in 1960 starring Spencer Tracy, Gene Kelly and Fredric March, this play has a great pedigree and is sure to be a great success.
