Las Vegas Disc Jockey John Dote' Launched Janet Jackson Smash!

As President of American Artists Records, Las Vegas Disc Jockey John Dote' launched 'What Have You Done For Me Lately' by Janet Jackson on A&M Records which charted at number 2 in San Francisco in 1986. This single set the stage for what was to become one of the biggest albums of the year, 'Control' which eventually went platinum. 'Nasty' also soared to the top of the Billboard charts and was followed by sold out concerts and performances from the icon on her rise to stardom. Janet was and still is pure talent. There was no American Idol in those days. But Jackson became one. During that same year, the Las Vegas Disc Jockey produced the themes from 'Dynasty' and 'Dallas' which were considered the biggest hit television shows throughout the globe. He was also involved with the making of the theme from Jaws 2 on MCA Records with Joe Saraceno.

Auction house previews Jackson family items for Las Vegas sale

LAS VEGAS -- Michael Jackson's gold record award for the 'Thriller' album, a 'Victory Tour' program signed by Jackson family members, and handwritten lyrics for the 1970 Jackson Five hit 'ABC' are among the items to be auctioned next month unless the entertainer moves to block the sale, officials said.

Arlan Ettinger, founder and president of Guernsey's Auction House, compared plans to sell more than 1,100 Jackson family items May 30-31 to an auction of Elvis Presley Graceland memorabilia he conducted in Las Vegas in 1999.

'It certainly is in that sphere of landmark, high profile, extraordinary auctions,' Ettinger told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

A representative for Michael Jackson said the pop icon was considering legal action to stop the auction planned for the Hard Rock hotel resort in Las Vegas.

Will Michael Jackson cancel more shows?June 14, 10:19 AM · 23 comments

King of PopRehearsals for Michael Jackson's This is It concert series have been a disaster. The self-titled “King of Pop” has allegedly been vomiting, crying, fainting, and screaming at everybody. One can assume that this is the reason some of his shows are being cancelled, although it hasn’t officially been stated. “Michael Jackson has become a pathetic shadow of his former self,” one person from the rehearsals told me. “It would be better off if he didn’t show up for the shows at all.”

There is more trouble for Michael Jackson. The Smoking Gun is posting the documents from his 1993 child abuse allegations, which Mr. Jackson paid himself out of. The details are real, graphic and disgusting. Michael Jackson may be a kid himself, but allegedly victimizing kids the way he did in these documents is very disgusting. While some may argue that the allegations are false, it's still sad that there are people out there who actually think Michael Jackson is a saint.

Those are great names, but the FIRST DISCO ARTIST that crossed over into Pop Culture was MONTI ROCK III. He appeared on the TONIGHT SHOW with Johnny Carson in the very early seventies. He would come flying out, a flaming superstar, Queen of the stage along with these stereotypical Bimbos he called the Sex-o-lettes and start singing his hit song GET DANCIN.

JOHN AND DANA DOTE' (TILL DEATH DO US APART)

June 7, 2008 proved to be the most exciting birthday for legendary record producer John Dote' who has recently returned to the San Francisco Bay Area after 6 years of living in Las Vegas. And why was his birthday so exciting you might ask? His proposal to his longtime bestfriend of over 24 years to Bay Area pop recording artist Dana Farber was answered with a, 'Yes I WILL'. Farber (right) and Dote' (left) go back several decades in the music industry. Their friendship has remained in tact and Farber is no stranger in the entertainment field. Her recordings have been charted all over the world and their colaboration of their hit single 'Searching' recorded in the late 80's and written by Dote' is about to be re-recorded by this talented duo. In fact, the chorus lyrics as written reads 'Someday, we've got to share the life we missed before' has come to a reality. After many years apart, this newly wed team have decided to spend the moments and years apart with deep emotions and compassion that they never shared before, that is until now.

Dote', who was born in the Bronx, New York-decided he met his match and soulmate, originally from San Francisco. The two originally met at a Foster City swimming pool. And summer was the perfect time of the season to meet. Their was an instant attraction and so much in common. They were meant for each other and their colaboration and talent in music does leave audience's standing on their feet. With all of those years of musical experience between them, they have now become a singing duo. And they are getting quite a response with their recent performances throughout the bay area.

Dote' is also no stranger to the recording industry. The theme from M*A*S*H, , Charlie's Angles and the theme from Jaws II were also influenced by his trade mark soundtrack of classic instrumentals. And the two have decided that it is time to live out their fantasies. MUSIC! While Larry King was a roomate in the Farber household during those days, Dote's mother was designing outfits for Sly and the family Stone. But it was during the 80's when Dote' was at the top of the musical forum. He was at the center stage. His name appeared on every television station, every newspaper and magazine cover and every major radio station. The two had a close friendship during this era and were seen in various bay area spots pulling up in a Rolls Royce. The Rolls was originally from the hit television series 'Dynasty', which Dote' produced the theme song. Dote' had also produced 'Searching' by Dana, but according to her, she got stiffed on her record. Dote' had deserted the project to promote Janet Jackson. When his career soared to the top, the two lost touch.

REMEMBERING THE BLUES LEGEND JOHN LEE HOOKER AND JOHN DOTE'

Legendary John Lee Hooker And John Dote'

The legendary and the world's greatest blues singer John Lee Hooker was loved by millions of fans throughout the world. It was no secret that some of his closest freinds included Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Van Morrison.

Another close freind was his occassional drummer, 'The Theme Man', John Dote' (Hawaii Five-0, Charlie's Angel's, Dynasty and Dallas), who used to perform with 'The Hook' in the San Francisco Bay Area during the early 80's. It was Hookers keyboard player and director Deacon Jones who ran into Dote' at a doctor's office in San Carlos, California, who over heard Dote' make the statement that he was a recording producer.

Jones lit up and approached Dote' stating that he was a keyboard player. The rest became History. Not long after that encounter, Dote', who was living in the same town as the legend himself, became aquainted with Hooker who invited Dote' to play the drums at his smoked filled concerts.

Dote', known as one of the country's top drummer's lived up and fullfilled the occassion to the delight of the audiences which they entertained. It was common to also see other blues legends such as Buddy Miles and Greg Allman join in as guest's stars.

Hooker and Dote' wound up becoming the best of freinds and although Hooker has since passed, his music remains classic and unsurpassed. Above is the photo of the legendary John Lee Hooker and the Theme Drummer, John Dote' at a Marin County sold out event.

John Lee Hooker is one of the original innovators and kings of African American popular music, commonly called the blues. He was born on August 22, 1917, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to a Baptist minister. Later he became the stepson of William Moore, a guitarist. At the age of 14, he started singing with spiritual groups. Hooker learned his style of guitar playing from his stepfather.(Stratyner 112) He also learned to play from his colleagues, James Smith and Coot Harris. His style of guitar playing is known as two-finger picking.(Stratyner 112) His two-finger picking style is known as Deltalick.

John Lee Hooker passed away in his sleep in his home in Los Altos, San Francisco Bay Area, California during the night between June 20 and June 21, 2001. Official death Thursday 21. He is still the greatest blues singer in the world.

John Lee Hooker is a giant of the blues and the father of the boogie. Beginning in 1948 with his first single, 'Boogie Chillen,' he introduced the world to the persistent, chugging rhythm of boogie music, a form of country blues Hooker learned back home in Mississippi. His foot-stomping boogie was adapted and amplified in the Sixties and Seventies by a great number of rock and roll artists, including the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, Canned Heat, John Mayall, Ten Years After, Foghat, ZZ Top and George Thorogood. Beyond his ability to lock into a hypnotic boogie groove, Hooker is renowned for the gruff emotionality of his voice and the stark intensity of his guitar playing. Over the decades, he has proven to be a survivor. When interest in electric blues began cooling off, Hooker found a niche for himself on the coffeehouse circuit during the acoustic folk-music boom of the late Fifties and early Sixties. More recently, his career has enjoyed a sustained resurgence that included a Grammy award for his 1989 album The Healer.
Hooker was born on August 22, 1917, to a sharecropping family in Clarksdale, Mississippi. His stepfather, Will Moore, taught him how to play guitar, and as a young man Hooker encountered such blues legends as Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Blind Blake along the way. In his early teens, Hooker ran off to Memphis, where he worked as a theater usher and played music on the side. He also lived in Cincinnati and Knoxville before settling down in Detroit in 1943. He labored in an auto factory by day and played blues at house parties and clubs along the city's legendary Hastings Street. In 1948, he recorded 'Boogie Chillen,' an enormously influential single that was picked up for national distribution by Modern Records and rose to Number One on the R&B chart in 1949.

Hooker went on to record for more than two dozen labels, often resorting to aliases such as John Lee Cooker, Delta John and the Boogie Man for contractual reasons. Much of his most popular work, including the classic versions of 'Boom Boom' and 'Crawling Kingsnake,' appeared on the Vee-Jay label. Beloved by rock and rollers, Hooker has never lacked for support and collaborators. In 1970 Canned Heat collaborated with Hooker on a landmark double album entitled Hooker ‘n' Heat. Hooker appeared in The Blues Brothers movie, sang the title role on Pete Townshend's concept album The Iron Man, and has duetted with Van Morrison. His latter-day projects have attracted such contributors as Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt and Los Lobos. In October 1990, a host of friends and admirers participated in an all-star concert celebration of Hooker's music at Madison Square Garden.

Tony Bennett

As Tony Bennett approaches his seventh decade of international renown and heartfelt devotion to his fans and family, his star continues to rise.

Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto in Astoria, Queens in New York City, Tony Bennett seemed destined for a career in music. Growng up, listening to Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, and jazz artists such as Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden, and Joe Venuti. young Bennett's fate was sealed

Performing professionally by the age of ten, Tony Bennett would soon attended New York's High School of Industrial Art, studing music and painting, but dropped out at age 16 to help support his family.

After a brie stint in US Army, Tony Bennett studied at the American Theater Wing on the GI Bill. Tony Bennett was taught the bel canto singing discipline, which would keep his voice in good shape for his entire career.

In 1949, Tony was spotted by Pearl Bailey and asked to open for her in Greenwich Village. A year later, Tony Bennett was signed to Columbia Records by Mitch Miller.

Tony Bennett's first big hit came in 1951 and was 'Because of You', a ballad produced by Miller with a lush orchestral arrangement from Percy Faith. Bennett followed with a rendition of Hank Williams' 'Cold, Cold Heart.'

Bennett's third #1 single came in 1953 with 'Rags to Riches'. Later that year Bennett began singing show tunes to make up for a New York newspaper strike; 'Stranger in Paradise' from the Broadway show Kismet reached the top, as well as being a #1 hit in the United Kingdom and starting Bennett's career as an international artist.

DANA DOTE', LARRY KING, DON FARBER. JOHN DOTE' HEADLINES

Don Farber and Larry King
BREAKING NEWS

Larry King: Yeah, I did all sorts of odd things. I was a PR director at a race track at a race track in Louisiana. I still had some friends. I wrote some articles for Esquire magazine. Joe Namath was great to me. Everybody was after Joe Namath 'cause he wasn't doing interviews. He liked me, so he had me do this piece for Esquire , and they gave me $25,000. I got the chance to go to training camp with him, and did this long piece with Namath, which was a big help to me. I did odd little jobs, but I always knew I'd get back. I was in San Francisco, where I had a friend, Don Farber (father of Dana Dote’. Dana Dote’ is now married to record producer John Dote’. I was staying at his house, so I didn't have to pay rent. This was only 22 years ago. I would go to San Francisco every day, knock on doors. Finally I got hired at KGO to do University of California Berkeley football and baseball. I would do color. (Dana Dote' in above photograph).
My mother wasn't feeling too well back in Miami. I had two months 'til the job started, so I drove back to Miami to spend some time with my mother and I stayed in my mother's apartment. I got a call one day from the general manager of the radio station where I used to work, saying, 'Let bygones be bygones. Why don't you come back?' I came back, and I came back to television, I came back to writing a newspaper column, it all came back. And I stayed in Miami, never went back to San Francisco. In the early '70s I lost all the jobs I had. There was a guy named Louis Wolfson, was a financier and he got in trouble with the law and he was sentenced to jail and tried to get out, and I was supposed to try to set up a meeting with him with Nixon and I never did it. And all this broke in the newspapers, and I lost my job, and he went to jail, and the district attorney lost his job. And it was like a two-year story, and I was off the air for three years, and then eventually I got back. But that come-down -- and I didn't handle money well, and I was in debt all the time -- that come down taught me. The day I went back on the air, I told myself, 'I will never, ever goof again.' I'll never get myself in the kind of situation where I could owe people money, or scared of when the phone rings, and stuff like that. It was heady to me that Lou Wolfson actually called me. I knew Richard Nixon, that I could actually get a meeting with Richard Nixon! That was heady stuff to a Jewish kid from Brooklyn who's suddenly driving around in a Cadillac. So even though I was making 50,000, I was living 80,000. And eventually that catches up with you. So when it all caught up with me and I lost everything and then got back on, I knew that if I could get back on I would never, never lose it. So I hired people to handle money for me. That adversity helped, because I changed my whole lifestyle. See, I was a big man in a small town. (Larry King has become a legend in the world news field and is currently viewed around the globe by millions of viewers.)
