Arts Briefly Two Cliburn Winners
For only the second time in its 47-year history, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition has ended in a tie. On Sunday, the Van Cliburn Foundation announced in Fort Worth that it had awarded the top prizes to Nobuyuki Tsujii, 20, of Japan (right, with Mr. Cliburn) and Haochen Zhang, 19, of China. Both performers will receive the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass gold medal and cash awards of $20,000, as well as concert tours for the three seasons, recording contracts and performance attire. Mr. Tsujii and Mr. Zhang were the youngest pianists in the competition, as well as its first winners from Asia. This year's silver medal was awarded to Yeol Eum Son of South Korea.
