The Picture House Restaurant Tackles Rising Prices By Giving Away Secrets
The Picture House Cookbook features signature dishes, handy tips and general musings straight from the kitchens. The focus is on eating well for less, and there are plenty of tips on how to make great dishes from leftovers and inexpensive ingredients.
Bristol, UK, July 07, 2008 -- Nick Armitage, owner and Head Chef of the The Picture House on Whiteladies Road, Clifton, has begun publishing top tips and recipes on his website to give customers suffering the effects of the economic downturn the chance to enjoy great food at home.
The Picture House Cookbook features signature dishes, handy tips and general musings straight from the kitchens. The focus is on eating well for less, and there are plenty of tips on how to make great dishes from leftovers and inexpensive ingredients.
Hit with rising costs of living â€' particularly for food and fuel â€' people are choosing to eat at home more and are generally cutting down on luxuries. The restaurant industry is typically one of the first to feel the effects of a slowdown, but Nick has so far managed to keep trade brisk at his Bristol restaurant and bar.
“We’ve recently added to the menus at The Picture House to cater for people feeling the pinch”, explained Nick. “Trying to reduce costs without compromising quality leads to some delicious creations, so we’ve decided to share these via a regularly updated blog on the website.”
Nick has started out with a handful of recipes, including roast beef dripping toast with parsley and caper salad, seared fillets of lamb’s heart with smoked bacon, and leftover potato gratin.
“The great thing about the blog is that I can regularly update without needing any technical knowledge. I can add new recipes all the time and I can also link to other interesting food writers out there.”
Nick doesn’t think that giving his secrets away will adversely affect business. In fact, he has plans to reveal even more in the future by adding short video clips.
'I think that people will enjoy being chef at home. Recipes will always turn out differently depending on the personality of the chef and if people do master all our best dishes, we'll just have to come up with even better ones to lure them back.'
